What's in a number? Well, I've just submitted an application to add this blog to the directory called Blogs By Women. This is the number of women-owned blogs we hope to be associated with, plus potentially their readers and whomever they are connected to. That is the beauty of the blogosphere. (I just love that word, don't you?) I am sure there are a few Purple WomenTM among them!

As previously experienced with other directories, it is difficult to determine which category we come under. Which heading would you have selected for our topic of focus on childfree women?

  • Family & Parenting
  • Feminists & Feminism
  • Gender & GBLT
  • Sex & Sexuality
  • Society & Culture
The answer will be revealed in a comment here!

I would have Selected Society and Culture. I am so glad I found your blog. I knew there had to be other intelligent women out there who have chosen not to have children. I look forward to reading your other posts.

Yes, that's it...Bravo! I will mention that cross-posting in more than one category was not possible. That would have been ideal for us.

On BlogHer's network, we are one of 9,000 women blogs listed, currently under the heading:

Feminism & Gender

Not sure it that's the best fit.

I'll bet, with the changes in the social climate, it won't be so very long until there is a "child free" bucket that we could tumble into.... with birthrates falling the way they are, and people realizing that there is life beyond babies, I would imagine that we (folks without offspring) will soon become the majority...

Oooh! I saw this here (thanks Teri) and I applied... and guess what? Like It Is is now a proud member of Blogs By Women - yay! Now there will be more exposure for childfree people living happily in child and parent centric world. Great!

As to the category, I selected Sex and Sexuality, after much consideration. In terms of available categories for Like It Is I thought society and culture a little too broad (thought I might get lost in it) and Families and Parenting... well, the Parenting decidedly did not fit even though I consider myself and my husband a family. I thought Feminism and Gender too narrow - and I'm not a Femininst. I think a Child-free category would be perfect, maybe in time we will see that...

And I meant to suggest, you might want to consider Sex and Sexuality for PW and Friends in the Blogs By Women category.

Honestly, I wish I could list us under more than one category. That would be best!
