Breaking News from North Dakota

Author Jennifer L. Shawne (Baby Not on Board) pioneered the idea of the un-baby shower, but this article from the Bismark Tribune is over the top: Cat Shower. Thanks to new commenter to this blog (kT) for sharing it.

This is just the kind of "pets instead of babies" negative stereo type I've come to expect the major media outlets.

What say you Purple WomenTM?

I really like this idea. Kind of wish I'd thought of it when we originally got our 2 cats. Might have made for an interesting party. I didn't really see the article as negative.

You're right Twiga. I need to read more carefully. My comment about the negative stereotype applies to "pet substitutes" for kids, which was not even mentioned in the article. In fact, neighter was the word "childfree".

See, that's what I liked about the article -- the cat shower idea wasn't mocked, and neither was this woman's choice to have cats, not children. To be honest, I think the article would have been spun differently had this woman been married and/or younger, but I will take the positive where I can find it!

Oh, and I really should confess that I happily have two cats who will never need college tuition and can be left home alone for two days.

Lucille-Marie -- I swear that somehow, everyone is connected to ND. It's twilight zone-ish!

What a great article. I love it...and I think it should be a given that we can have showers. We should write to Petsmart and ask they implement a registry system. I'd certainly use it. :)

Chase -- You are a woman of action! PetSmart has locations in Canada and the U.S.

They offer Pet Hotels, Doggy Day Camp, in-store Training & Grooming, an Adoption Center, Pet Gift Cards -- why not Pet Gift Registry?
